Birthday week – #25isthenew21

For everyone who knows me, they know how much I was dreading turning 25 this year. It felt like my quarter life crisis had arrived and there was no turning back. Luckily, I have the most amazing family and friends who showed me that 25 was just another number for the books and I’d achieved more in this past year than I would have had I been turning 24.

Anyway, let’s talk about birthdays and fashion. Birthdays are days when you want to stand out of the crowd and make sure the spotlight doesn’t move from you. Besides it being your special day, your attire should make sure to keep all eyes on you. So for my big two five, I wore a maxi black dress from Vero Moda (my best friend bought it for me; thank you Amu!)

Though I wore this throughout the day, I never flinched that it was an all black everything ensemble. The dress itself is breezy and light, it has rhinestones in the front which are silver and what sets it apart is the single side slit which was modest enough to even wear to work! I paired it with Yves Saint Laurent earrings and just minimal day makeup.

Since it’s quite sunny in b-town, I also carried my over-sized black sunglasses from Gucci. And a black wallet and I was good to go from day to night without an outfit change! This saved me a lot of time and worry about what I should wear to dinner straight from work. I highly recommend investing in a good maxi dress if your birthday falls on a weekday and you have no time to change.

Fortunately, the weekend was near and I went out for dinner and drinks with my friends the next night. As this was sort of a major event and I was shooting all morning before that, I decided to ditch black as my fail-safe and pick my ‘when in doubt wear red’ theory!

Featured above is me wearing a red off-shoulder dress from Forever New. It’s a midi with a thigh slit (I see a pattern in my dresses now?) and the fit was a body con. I fell in love with it the minute I tried it, vivid red makes you feel like you own the world. Since the sweetheart neckline was perfect for a neck-piece, I wore a simple Kate Spade chain and white heels with rhinestones to add some neutrals to the dress.

As you can see, I don’t accessorize too much so just my watch and a charm bracelet from juicy couture were added. The best thing about this outfit was it was classy and sexy at the same time without being overbearing on either. The off shoulder flouncy sleeves were my highlight!

Hope this gives you some inspiration for your birthday plans!

Have a sparkling one and never let years bring you down xx
